Colophon

How this site is built.

This site is a static Astro build. The posts are plain Markdown files that I write in Obsidian; the site compiles them to HTML and deploys to Vercel. Every page is plain HTML; a small script (about 6 KB) swaps pages in place so navigating doesn’t reload, and a few lines follow your system’s light or dark setting. There are no analytics and no tracking — what you see is what was written.

New posts start from a template:

npm run new -- "Post title"

The pieces:

Layer Choice
Framework Astro, static output
Writing Markdown in an Obsidian vault
Hosting Vercel
Type Geist, JetBrains Mono

The site is set in two self-hosted variable fonts: Geist for text and JetBrains Mono for metadata. The only colour is gold: in the mark, the marker for the page you’re on, and behind a link when you hover it.

Each published post gets a catalogue number in the order it was written — this one is the first.1
